Letter from Mrs. Martin to Guérin CF 48
August 29, 1869.
We are waiting for you on Saturday evening without fail. M. Romet has been notified, our invitations over. I will do my best to make the party beautiful and everyone happy.
I believe that it is quite useless to bring me a pelisse for baptism (On September 5, took place the ceremonies of the baptism of little Céline, who had been rippled the very day of her birth); it's too hot. We are very happy to see you again. The children only talk about that. I'm not writing to you any more since we'll see you at the end of the week.
However, I must tell you that little Céline is on her third nanny. Seeing the difficulty we had in finding a good one, I still wanted to try to keep the child at home. She was doing very well, but after four days she had a fever and enteritis. We hastened to fetch a nanny from Semallé, I believe she was very well placed this time. I went to see her on Wednesday, she seemed to be on the mend.
I have already had many torments for that child. I feel like I'm wearing out, I feel like I won't live long. During the six days that I had the little one to look after, I had a fever every day; it wasn't so much fatigue as worry, I was afraid of what had happened.
