Letter from Mrs. Martin CF 104
letter quoted differently by Thérèse in Ms A 6v

To his daughter Pauline
July 1, 1873.
My dear little Pauline,
I went to your godmother's on Saturday evening to tell her that your Second Communion ceremony would be delayed. I don't know if you will be able to go out on Thursday, but you will soon have a long vacation, which will last more than a day. Now, all you have to do is prepare yourself well for your Renewal. Above all, you will pray for Léonie, so that she can go to the Visitation at the start of the school year. She has a great desire for it and promises to be very good.
The nanny brought little Thérèse on Thursday. She only laughed; it was especially little Céline that he liked. She was laughing out loud with her. Looks like she already wants to play. It will come soon; she stands on her little legs, stiff as a little post and I believe she will walk early and that she will have a good character, she seems very intelligent and has a good predestined figure...
Now she eats well, I assure you that she finds my porridge good! I had done a lot so that Céline would have some too, but Thérèse didn't think she had too much, only the gratin remained.
It's been decided that we won't go see her until next month when you're here. We don't want to have fun without Pauline... I couldn't stay that long without kissing the baby, but the nanny brings her to me on Thursdays.
Your father has just told me to give you a big hug for him; he goes fishing, his favorite pastime
Adieu, my Pauline, I embrace you, too, with all my heart.
Your loving mother.
