MARTIN Pauline, Mother Agnes of Jesus

Marie-Pauline was born in Alençon. Studied at the Visitation of Le Mans (1868-1877). After the death of Mrs. Martin, and the arrival of the family at Les Buissonnets in Lisieux, she is an excellent educator with her young sisters. Skilled lacemaker, she also likes to paint with talent on parchment or ivory and easily composes compliments and sketches for her sisters. In 1882, she entered the Carmel of Lisieux, and took the name of Sister Agnès of Jesus. In community she exercised the duties of bursar, sub-prioress, prioress for many years since in 1923 Pope Pius XI appointed her prioress for life. She will work constantly to spread the message of Ste Thérèse, maintaining a correspondence with many personalities from all countries. Revered in her community and far beyond, she died at almost 90 in July 1951.
