Letter from Mrs. Martin CF 83
To his sister-in-law
December 15, 1872.
I am now expecting my little angel every day, and I am very perplexed, because I have not yet found a nanny.
I've seen several, but they didn't fit well and my husband could never bring himself to take one. It's not for the price, it's because we're afraid of introducing unsuitable people into our homes, as all nurses are in general today.
As for taking on a second maid, which would give me trouble and would not take care of my child as I would like, I prefer to keep quiet. If the good Lord would give me the grace to be able to breastfeed him, it would only be a pleasure to raise him. Me, I love children madly, I was born to have them, but it will soon be time for that to end. I'll be forty-one on the twenty-third of this month, that's when you're a grandmother!
I probably won't write to you before the birth of my baby, I hope it will take place around Christmas and I count on it being me who will announce it to you.
