Letter from Mrs. Martin CF 78
To Mrs Guerin
24 April 1872.
I am happy to hear of your full recovery; I thought the good weather would bring you back completely, but my brother was right to insist that you go to Trouville, you need the sea air to restore your strength.
Now, I am in the most complete slavery, because of the orders which follow one another and do not leave me a moment of rest. I have nearly a hundred meters of Point d'Alençon to have made. I received again, last week, more than fifteen thousand francs worth of orders.
Yesterday's courier brought me a letter from the two little girls and from my sister; she scolds me very much because I had written to her that I did not find the Easter holidays long enough. This poor sister is having a hard time with us; I'm not happy and, on the other hand, children can't get used to it. At each return, there are only tears and lamentations, she has to threaten to send them back to appease them. I'm hardly more reasonable, I find it hard to do without my little ones, and if it wasn't for their good, I wouldn't have the courage to part with them.
You tell me about the collection that was made in Lisieux, for war indemnities; it also took place in Alençon a month ago, with cavalcade and masked ball; it was not very edifying, especially during Lent, but our people from Alençon do not look at it so closely. It seems that they are taking a liking to it and that they will start again soon.
You must, my dear Sister, send me your lace, I will have it whitened for you and put it back in order if anything is missing. I will be very happy to do you this little service, I would like to have the opportunity to do you bigger ones.
