Letter from Mrs. Martin to Mrs. Guérin CF 47
July 11 1869.
I am very happy that Marie, despite her young age (whose First Communion was brought forward for health reasons), made her First Communion, if you knew how well disposed she was; she looked like a little saint. The Chaplain told me that he was very satisfied with her, he awarded her the first prize for catechism.
I spent the two best days of my life at Le Mans, I have rarely felt so much happiness. My sister felt better, Marie told me that she had prayed so much for her aunt that she was sure that the good Lord would answer her...
I noticed that our poor sister couldn't see her condition at all. The Mother Superior came to talk to me, and sent me several times to say that I had to reassure her and let her believe that she was not dangerously ill. I asked the Sisters what they thought of it. From what I have observed and what the Chaplain has told me, there are serious fears; she has a very sick lung, but the doctor does not completely despair; he thinks that with great care it might perhaps heal.
I can't wait to see you again, as well as little Jeanne. I will do my best to provide you with relaxation. We will go to the countryside. Expect that you will stay at least fifteen days with us. But I would very much like my dear Isidore to come too, otherwise it will cause me great pain.
Little Céline is doing wonderfully. She begins to chirp, she is already well advanced. I haven't seen her for a fortnight, for she is in nursing; I prepare to go there; it is however very hot, but I had never been so long without seeing her.
