Letter from Mrs. Martin CF 28
Congratulations to the happy mom
To Mrs Guerin
24 February 1868.
My dear sister,
We received the dispatch about nine o'clock this evening. Here she is, finally, this much-desired little Jeanne! May the good Lord preserve it for you and may it make you happy! You wouldn't believe how happy I would be if I could leave with my father to kiss you both. I find him so privileged, I envy his fate, but you have to resign yourself to staying, because there is no way to do otherwise.
When I told him the good news, my father was sitting quietly by the fire, smoking his pipe; he was not at all determined to leave so quickly. It took all the energy I possess to shake it. Finally, I succeeded and my husband immediately went to tell his maid.
I think the baptism will take place tomorrow? Isidore must write to me on Wednesday morning to give me news of you and of charming little Jeanne. As soon as you recover, I expect a letter from you, for you will give me many more details than my brother. He doesn't tell me half of what I should, his letters are always too short.
