Letter from Mrs. Martin CF 74
To his brother Isidore Guérin
26 November 1871.
I will take the train for Lisieux on Sunday at half past three in the morning. I've tried to arrange it another way, but I can't think of a better one. It is impossible for me, this time, to leave on Saturday, and on Sunday, I cannot travel a whole morning, it would be against my principles, because I find that we must be very careful not to cooperate in the work of the Sunday. However, I will have to come back on Tuesday morning; I cannot stay longer. I always have orders in a hurry, I can't get away with it. I no longer wanted to continue the business at present, and I am forced to do so as they insist on me. Finally, the main thing is that we see each other. We still have time to talk to each other for two days.
So I am going to finish my letter now. I want to save everything I have to tell you for next week.
I still find it hard to believe that I will leave, there will perhaps be new impediments, I will only believe I am on my way when I am on the train. However, I want no obstacles to arise, because if I don't take advantage of this moment of respite, the game will be postponed, I don't know when. In order to arrive from Sunday, I have been working for eight days until midnight, so I intend to ship my piece from Point d'Alençon on Friday evening.
I recommend that you don't go crazy for New Year's gifts, I would be so sorry! Would you do it only to please me, the motive would be enough, because I know that you are usually too generous.
It annoys me to have made you put seven thousand francs on the bill, you already have too many pensions to pay. Also, I have made up my mind not to accept interest for that sum.
