Letter from Mrs. Martin to her brother Isidore CF 27
24 February 1868.
I think you are very happy with the birth of your little Jeanne? You must have had a famous anxiety, because you torment yourself quite a lot and often for things of less importance. Please don't make me yearn for a letter. Write to me immediately after baptism. You will tell me if the little one is nice, if she cries a lot, I must know everything. My father grimaced when he found out it was a girl, he wanted a boy, that will be for another time.
My dear friend, I have such a desire to go and see you that I can't resist it any longer; I would have cried tonight to see all my father's preparations that weren't for me. I love your wife as much as you, she is so good, so affectionate. And the little darling, how I already love her! How unfortunate that we are so far apart, we would have so much fun together. But no, you have to see each other at long intervals and for a very short time.
I'm finishing because I'm in no condition to write this evening.
When I received your telegram, it gave me such emotion that I had it for the whole evening. It's midnight, and I still can't get over it.
I have had a lot of pain in one eye for a month; it's not red, you can't see anything, it's a nerve that's damaged. If you had some medicine to relieve him, send them. I'm worried about that, I'm so afraid of not being able to work.
You will tell me if the new maid pleases your wife and if your pupil has returned, so that I can be sure that you are not in any embarrassment.
