The library of the Carmel of Lisieux at the time of Thérèse had less than 300 books. At the time, we didn't have a release form for each book, so it's impossible to know whether Thérèse has read such and such a title. On the other hand, the books of the pre-choir have another story. We can see a few of them in the photo on the left, on one of the shelves in this room, opposite the ropes for ringing the bells. When a sister was a "ringer", she was responsible for ringing all the offices of the community for a week. This task involved, in a micro-society without a watch, going a little early and waiting for the exact time on the clock at the entrance to the fore-choir. During this moment of waiting, the ringer read one of the books of the pre-choir, and she could even mark its page and continue it during the wait preceding the following office. The probabilities that Thérèse read the books in the pre-choir are therefore much higher than for the books in the library.
