As early as 1894-1895, Sister Marie de Saint-Joseph had obtained permission from Mother Agnès to ask Thérèse for advice. She therefore considers her as a spiritual authority in the community.
After Thérèse's death, she had to leave the Carmel to seek treatment, but remained linked with Mother Agnès of Jesus and wrote to her often. Through her letters, we discover how much she esteems Thérèse:
"The work of sanctification that my beloved Thérèse had so fraternally begun in me before it took off, it continues to this day and it seems to me that I can tell you in all sincerity that my home has also been pacified and I live now in total abandonment. As long as I love my Jesus and that he is happy with me as well as my Little Thérèse, the rest doesn't matter to me”.
