Vicar at Saint-Jacques de Lisieux in 1873 and appointed chaplain of the Carmel, he remained so until his death.
He was Thérèse's ordinary confessor throughout her religious life and held her in great esteem.
Thérèse and her sister Mother Agnès of Jesus illuminated a missal for him.
