the Carmel
character

RUBILLON Henri Father, sj

Jesuit

Born February 15, 1866 in Saint Mavieu, died March 6, 1931 in Rio de Janeiro.

This contemporary and compatriot of Thérèse, naturalized Brazilian, made himself "the humble herald in Brazil of the glorious miracle-worker of our times", as he declared one day in 1932. It was he who aroused in his adopted country, the subscription for the purchase of a Brazilian flag for the chapel of Carmel, a flag which was sent to Lisieux in a splendid case of precious wood, on which are carved the coat of arms of Thérèse. After this "marvel of Brazil", the surplus of the subscription was used to make a reliquary for the mortal remains of Thérèse: it is the famous "shrine of Brazil".
