Born July 23, 1818 in Saint-Martin-des-Besaces, died October 8, 1895 in Lisieux.

Superior of the Carmel of Lisieux from September 14, 1870 until his death, he showed tenacious opposition to the entry of Thérèse Martin into the Carmel, because of her young age. He did not recover from his prejudices until 1892, during the influenza epidemic in Carmel. Thérèse kept three letters from him, dated 1888 and 1890
