MARTIN Céline, Sister Geneviève of the Holy Face

Céline was born in Alençon. She is the seventh child of the Martin couple. She studied at the Abbey of Lisieux from 1877 to 1885. Stayed in the world longer than her sisters, she developed her artistic talent there, and took care of her father during his long illness, in Caen, Lisieux and La Muse. She entered the Carmel on September 14, 1894 under the name of Sister Marie of the Holy Face. When she was clothed on February 5, 1895, she took the name of Sister Geneviève de Sainte Thérèse. She did her novitiate under the guidance of Thérèse. Nurse's aide after her profession, then Thérèse's nurse during her last months, she writes down some of her last words. In 1916, she took the name of Sister Geneviève of the Holy Face. Photographer and artist, we owe him the majority of the photographs of Saint Thérèse, as well as her official portraits. She also greatly contributed to the dissemination of Thérèse's message with Mother Agnès, and testified at the trials of Thérèse as well as of Louis and Zélie. She died on February 25, 1959 at the age of 89.
