My dear Leonie,
Do you think your little Thérèse is forgetting you? Oh no ! you know her heart too well to think that. I would have liked to write to you at the same time as Our Mother and Sister Marie of the Sacred Heart, but there was a misunderstanding and their letter left sooner than I thought. Today I come to take my revenge and spend a little time with you.
If you only knew, dear little Sister, the thanksgiving that I send to Heaven for the favor that the good God has granted you! Finally your wishes are fulfilled, like the dove coming out of the ark, you could not find on the earth of the world where to set foot, you flew for a long time seeking to return to the blessed abode where your heart had forever fixed its stay. Jesus made himself wait, but at last the moaning of his dove touched him, He stretched out his divine hand and taking his bride, He placed her on his heart in the tabernacle of his love.
So the prediction of our holy Aunt has now come true. The child of Breuse Marg. Mary is at the Visitation and she will forever be the spouse of Our Lord.
Oh ! no doubt, my joy is entirely spiritual since henceforth I must no longer see my dear Léonie here below, I must no longer hear her voice nor pour out my heart into hers. But I know that the earth is the place of our exile, we are travelers who walk towards our homeland, what does it matter if the road we follow is not the same since the unique term will be Heaven, it is there that we will be reunited never to leave each other again, it is there that we will eternally taste the joys of the family, we will find our beloved Father who will be surrounded with glory and honor for his perfect fidelity and above all for the humiliations he has been watered, we will see our good Mother who will rejoice in the trials that were our share during the exile of life, we will enjoy her happiness by contemplating her five religious daughters and we will form with the four little angels who await us up there a crown that will forever encircle the foreheads of our dear Parents.
Dear little Sister, you see the part I take in your joy, I know that it is very great but also that the sacrifices do not fail to accompany it, without them would religious life be meritorious? No, you see, it is on the contrary the small crosses that are all our joy, they are more ordinary than the big ones and prepare the heart to receive them when it is the will of our good Master.
I beg you, my dear Léonie, to kindly offer my respectful remembrance to your Reverend Mother, for whom I have retained a wholly filial affection since the day I had the honor of knowing her, am I not a bit of his family since you are his daughter and I your unworthy little sister?...
Our Mother, Mother Marie de Gonzague and Sr. M. of the Sacred Heart also offer their religious remembrance to Madam Superior and send their dear Léonie the best wishes for happiness.
Do not forget in your prayers, dear Sister, the smallest Carmelite who is so united to you in the heart of the Blessed Virgin.
