October 15, 1890.

                My dear Aunt,

I was touched by everything you sent me for my birthday, I don't know how to thank you, or where to start.
First of all my dear little Aunt, you sent me your charming Marie who, in the name of all those I love, wished me my birthday.
The two pretty flowerpots offered by my two dear little sisters Jeanne and Marie gave me great pleasure; they are placed near baby Jesus and at every hour of the day claim for my two little sisters as many graces and blessings as each heather contains little flowers...
Finally my darling little Aunt, your delicious cakes came to crown the party and filled the heart of your little Thérèse with gratitude for you who give me all these treats.
I am all the more touched in that I know, my dear little Aunt, how ill you are and despite that you still think of your little Thérèse. But if you think of her, she also often thinks of you and never stops praying to God to give you back a hundredfold for everything you do for us. I also pray a lot for my dear little Jeanne, that the good Lord make her as happy as we can be on earth. I also ask him to console you for the great emptiness that the departure of this dear sister must leave. I don't forget my dear Uncle either, and I beg you to kiss him very much for me.
I am leaving you, my dear little Aunt, or rather I am leaving the pen that knows so badly how to fulfill the mission that my heart entrusts to it. For him, he does not move away from you for a moment.
