                                                                                           the 25 April 1866

. . . Next Saturday I will recommend you to the prayers of the whole community for your exam, then for success you must abandon yourself to Providence. (I. Guérin is preparing to take his final exams. He will be received on May 8, as a 1st class pharmacist).
God watches over his creatures with such paternal goodness that I am as calm as if it were in my power to turn things around as I pleased.
You see, we don't quite know what we need and our good heavenly Father knows it well, so let him do it. This is my consolation in all events, because to tell you the truth, I have never looked favorably on the profession of pharmacist, although I find it good and suitable for salvation, but anyway I had dreamed something else. I was hoping that you would have the courage to complete your medical studies to obtain the Doctorate. However, I am very happy because I can clearly see that this is where God wants you.
