Letter from Mrs. Martin to her brother Isidore CF 5
17 January 1864.
It seems you weren't happy with my New Year's letter. What did you want me to tell you? If I had complimented you, you would have laughed at me, if I had preached to you, you would have laughed at it, so I put whatever was in my mind at the time. But that doesn't prevent me from loving you and from giving everything I have rather than abandoning you, even if you were to forget me and commit the greatest mischief.
Come soon if you can, as you intended; we will have fun together, we will argue a little, as usual, but it will create a diversion, it's a little pastime!...
I would have told you much more, but Louis is waiting for my letter to attach it to that of my father [Isidore Guérin], ready to leave, I have to finish.
