Letter from Mrs. Martin to her brother Isidore CF 3
12 November 1863.
...You cannot imagine the joy I felt on receiving your dispatch (the young Isidore Guérin had just received his bachelor of science). I cried with happiness for the first time in my life. You know, I'm a bit the cause of your success, because I had asked for prayers from the Poor Clares of Alençon, Wednesday and Thursday, at ten o'clock in the morning, thinking that it was time for your exams, then I communicated for you; you must be a little grateful to me for all this.
Louis was very happy too. In your honor, we bought a goose on Saturday and celebrated on Sunday. We were all very sorry that you weren't here to feast with us and have fun!
I don't have time to write to you any longer, and besides, the more I tell you about it, the more you'll tease me about my style, I'm sure... I did, however, get the first prize for style. in the past. On eleven compositions, I was ten times the first and still I was of the first division and of the high class, thus judge of the capacity of the others!
